Alicia Keys Has A US Number One
July 14th this year saw Alicia Keys play her very own set for the prestigious MTV Unplugged - where Nirvana, Eric Clapton, Alice In Chains, Mariah Carey and Alanis Morrisette have gone before her.
This week, the Alicia Keys Unplugged album topped the US Billboard charts to become the second highest Unplugged debut of all time after Nirvana's 1994 performance.
Aside from Keys' distinctive presence taking the stage, she was joined by Common, Mos Def, Damien Marley and Maroon 5's Adam Levine - big names that made her Unplugged a powerhouse R&B performance. Keys incorporated a number of covers including The Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses" and Aretha Franklin/Brenda Holloway's "Every Little Bit Hurts" as well as introducing two new songs "Stolen Moments" and "Unbreakable".
Alicia Keys Unplugged was released on the 11th of October, and by hitting number one has made Keys the first female R&B artist to have three consecutive number one albums on the Billboard charts. An impressive feat for a 24 year-old in anyone's opinion.
But that's not all she's achieved since hitting the big-time - Keys has won 9 Grammy Awards, has sold almost 20 million albums worldwide and was named one of TIME Magazine's "Most Influential People In The World". Recently she has also been broadening her horizons to include film and will be starring in a few set for release next year.
