Chaos and Creation in the Backyard
Paul McCartney's 2005 tour of the United States in support of new album, Chaos and Creation in the Backyard, comes to the Xcel Energy Center in St Paul.
Of all the former Beatles, McCartney has enjoyed the most successful solo career, but not always critical acclaim. With his rock group, Wings, he enjoyed enormous sales for a decade. His 1982 George Martin-produced solo album, Tug of War, contained the number one hit Ebony and Ivory, a duet with Stevie Wonder. The following year he hit the top again, this time singing with Michael Jackson on Say Say Say.
However, not all his work has been so successful. His film project, Give My Regards to Broadway, was a flop and some of his albums have been less than kindly received by the critics. But he has always been able to bounce back. His 1989 album Flowers in the Dirt was a critical success and The Liverpool Oratorio, composed with Carl Davis in 1991, was a laudable first foray into classical music.
Since the huge Beatles project, Anthology, McCartney has released the largely acoustic Flaming Pie (1997), two years later Run Devil Run contained mostly rock 'n' roll covers, while his 2001 release, Driving Rain, was a collection of spirited melodic compositions.
