Satellite hookup puts Stones on AMA show
Viewers of the 2005 American Music Awards will see a live performance by the Rolling Stones, the latest addition to the event's performance lineup.
The band will join the Los Angeles-based show via satellite from Salt Lake City's Delta Center to perform a song from its latest album, "A Bigger Bang" (Virgin).
The Stones join previously announced performers Mariah Carey (the event's top nominee, with four nods), Kenny Chesney and Rob Thomas for the November 22 awards. Cedric "The Entertainer" will host the 33rd annual show, which will air live on ABC from the Shrine Auditorium.
In other news, for the second year the AMAs will include the T-Mobile Text In Award among its honors. Fans will be asked to vote for their favorite from a list of six artists, each representing a specific genre.
T-Mobile USA subscribers can vote for Carey (soul/R&B), Kelly Clarkson (adult contemporary), 50 Cent (rap/hip-hop), Green Day (rock), Toby Keith (country) or Gwen Stefani (pop) via text messaging. Everyone else can cast a ballot online at AMA.ABC.com (http://www.ama.abc.com). Chesney was the winner of last year's inaugural text-in award.
